Recurring costs:
Domain Name Registration
ICANN is the organization that registers all domain names (www.yournamehere.com). They charge $8.99 per year for you
to own the site name of your choice. That's true whether you're CNN or John Smith, LICSW.
File Storage / Hosting
Once your site has been designed and created, it needs someplace to be hosted. That way, when a user goes to
"www.yournamehere.com," the proper text and images reach the user's eyes.
Privacy Protection
When you register a domain, it is required that you provide valid contact information, which becomes available to anyone with an Internet
connection. Some places sell bulk lists containing the names, addresses, email, and phone numbers of registrants to advertisers. So if you'd
like to have a domain of your own, but don't want your name, home address and phone number hanging out there on the Internet, free
for the taking, then there is a service that costs 1 cent a day (so $3.65 for the year), which obfuscates your information. It's called
RespectMyPrivacy.
A summary of all recurring costs:
| $8.99 per year | to register www.yournamehere.com |
| $1.01* per month | to host your files (photos, documents, etc.)
* Could be pennies more if you have a lot (over a megabyte) of files to store
|
| $0.01 per day | to protect your privacy |
| $24.89 | Yearly Total |
When you create the website, I will register the domain for you and set up a prepaid account from which this $24.89 will be deducted
throughout the year. Some charges are daily (RespectMyPrivacy protection), others are monthly (the hosting of your files) and some
yearly (the domain registration and renewal).
These costs are separate from the cost to create the site itself. When the funds run low on that account, you will be notified and another
deposit will need to be made to the prepaid account. I receive no commission for this; all the money that goes to your prepaid account
goes directly to supporting your website.
